Welcome to IVE Leaguer
If this is not your first trip to our site(s), you will note that we have taken IVE Leaguer
to a quarterly format and schedule. If this is your first trip to our
site, you obviously won't notice any changes. But, in either case, we
are
especially pleased to have you with us.
We are the newsletter for members and sponsors
of The IVE League. As you will see at the bottom of
the page, we are a nonprofit organization devoted to the concept of
Integrated Vocational Education -- curriculum and support materials
which blend academic education and career/vocational training into
thematic learning units for presentation to the same students, in the
same
classrooms, at the same time.
In this, and future, issues of our
newsletter we will be keeping you up to date on our activities and
progress. But there is more! We also cover
relevant activities and information for implementation of IVE practices
in schools (both public and private), charter schools, home-school
practice, and learning in general.
FEATURE:
FACTOIDS
Returning in the March issue, this feature offers four factual vignettes every month for the curious mind. We hope you enjoyed our previous Factoids.
THIS MONTH'S QUESTION:FEEDBACK
What should community business leaders know about IVE. Are your schools meeting your needs?
The general opinion appears to be yes, but barely. We need no hear from
more people on this one but the 32 respondents we heard from gave us an
interesting cross-section of the United States.
Looking for more detailed information about IVE? Visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.
IVE League's Curriculum Team members have identified 19 general disciplines
upon which we will focus our efforts over the first six months.
These are:

E-NET LIBRARY CURRENTLY ON HOLD
The IVE Focus Text e-netlibrary--an
IVE League has been placed on hold for want of editorial staff and new
writers to broaden the topical focus, and an expanding relationship
between IVE Focus Text and Reading Champs. As you may recall, the e-net
Library is part of the IVE literacy initiative
which is intended to meet three goals at the same time.
First, Educational:
It is a source for both free and lo-priced priced books, many of which
are exclusive to The IVE League, on a wide range of topics. This quarter's month's featured free e-books include a handbook on the basics of setting up and running an
e-Bay business and another on some of the fine points for creating and
selling e-books. One of the best of this month's priced products
is "Big Fish in a Small Town." Author Tom Koziol, a retired radio talk
show from Reno, Nevada, shows how almost anyone can become an instant
celebrity by creating and hosting topical radio shows (and by
inference, TV shows).
Second, Opportunity: The people at e-netlibrary are actively seeking writers and those who dream of becoming published authors. "We are especially
interested in people who can handle "How-to-" subjects on just about
any topic," says
Publisher Don Werve. We plan on expanding our efforts in the
area of Community Education over the next 12 months, as well as
increasing career-focus materials for inclusion into the IVE-format
classes.
Third, Economic self sufficiency:
The e-net library has the potential of being a major IVE League support center.
Once in full operation, we can see the program providing for as much as
15% to 20% of our general operating budget. We obviously
will need to be aggressive in our other funding initiatives and have
several other activities starting this month for fund raising programs.
The Library http://www.focustext.com/e-netlibrary, as
of the end of December, we have either created or brought in nearly 40
titles, some of which are still going through the edit-and-convert
process. Three of those which are "on the shelf" right now are
Tom Koziol's Sucker Plays (a detailed analysis of some of the scams victimizing people on and off the Internet), Don Werve's Multitasking SUCKS! (A look at some of the perils with human multitasking), and the exclusive release of World of Wainright--Third Edition (Poetry and commentary spanning over 30 years in the the life of "a most uncommon, common man").
And we are especially pleased to continue to
offer three popular titles available through our publishing affiliates.
The United States and the two Gulf Wars
by Lester Brune (from Regina Books) provides detailed insights of the causes
and aftermaths of U.S. diplomacy from the Iran Crisis through the
deposition of Saddam Hussein.
The Search for a Civic Voice by Kenneth Burt (also from Regina Books) presents an in-depth examination of the ever-changing state of Latino politics in California and its impacts on American political thought.
Dandelion Through the Crack
by Kiyo Sato (Willow Valley Press) is "...a vividly honest, deeply
moving account of the trials and triumphs of a Japanese immigrant
family..." from 1911 into the twenty-first century.
"Our offerings are growing, literally, day-by-day," says
one library spokesman. And we are looking for more authors and free-lance writers
in all genre.
Are you ...
... a new writer looking for "a break?"
... a "lightly published" writer looking to test your work?
... an experienced writer with something different to say?
... a classroom teacher tired of giant publishers who don't listen?
... a poet looking for a publishing source you don't have to buy?
We could be just the place for which you are looking.
